The Spanish colonial town of Comayagua
Comayagua, Honduras – 2014. I was visiting Honduras for a Habitat for Humanity Global Village build near a town called Plan Grande which was a 45 minute drive from Santa Cruz de Yojoa. With the help of the Habitat Honduras staff we were able to visit a number of interesting sites in the general area of Santa Cruz de Yojoa. The city of Comayagua is in central Honduras just off the main highway between San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa. It was founded by the Spanish in 1537 and is noted for its wealth of Spanish Colonial architecture. The central square has a cathedral (Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception) with what is purported to be the oldest clock in the Americas. It is an easy walk through the historical centre of the city and there is a lot of history to look at.
